After training in psychology experimental, a decade of painting and a few years to go artist Nicolas Clauss poses brushes in 2000 to continue his painting work through video and code IT. His installations and video paintings are works non-figured, in constant "re-write". In a form of visual anthropology (sometimes choreographic), his approach probes the figure and human reality by inventing other modes of exploration of the moving image, notably through the randomisation algorithmic.
From 2000 to 2010, he collaborated with Jean-Jacques Birgé on interactive modules (Flyingpuppet, Somnambules, etc.). Their most recent collaborations were a concert in 2013 and the film Perspectives du XXIIe siècle in 2020.
